Australia has something just as much if not more worrisome that cost of living. China is rapidly becoming a big threat to Australia. Unless USA and possibly Japan intervenes on Australias behalf the Chinese would meet very little and weak resistance if they decided to invade/ attack Australia.

Isn't it terrifying that we are now in a stage where we are necessarily talking this way?

I can't imagine them (China) invading. They already own half the country, a lot of our institutions and most of our politicians. And the country is much too vast and inhospitable for them to take in a conventional war. All they need to to is install a puppet government through bribery (and they're not far off).
I think that the whole pushing a fear of physical invasion is a distraction for the general public to not realise that they're already running most of the place.

@Tom81 sounds like a valid argument.
