FBI arrests leader of group helping detain border crossers in NM
If this group has the support of local border control officials and is providing assistance without threatening illegals attempting to cross the border, isn’t that a good thing?
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement it did not support citizens taking law enforcement into their own hands and instead encouraged the public to be its eyes and ears on the border.
Benvie said the UCP was doing just that and had the support of local Border Patrol and police.
Dressed in camouflage and carrying rifles, UCP members have helped U.S. Border Patrol detain over 5,600 migrants in the last two months, Benvie said. Videos posted online by the group show members telling migrants to stop, sit down, and wait for agents to arrive.
Just wait until the first nations try this tactic.
Yes, there are problems with civilians acting as a police force. It would be one thing if these people were intercepting illegals on private property (ranch at the border) by invitation of the owners. They would be detaining trespassers by way of citizens arrest. But the armed detainment of illegals on public lands or private property without expressed consent of the owners is illegal detention.
It’s a great thing. Sadly they got him as a convicted felon carrying a firearm.
@Garsco I hope so.
