Federal Court: chalking tires is trespassing, not police work-
[reason.com]

When an overzealous parking enforcer chalks the tires of a car, a federal court ruled this week, that action counts as trespassing, not as law enforcement.

Interesting. I wonder if this will also hold for cops surreptitiously placing GPS sensors on vehicles.

That is an interesting interpretation of the law, to say the least.

Chalking tires is not trespassing, IMO. If parking laws are not enforced idiots will not share the right to park with others. They are far to self centered to even consider another persons right to use the space!

@EdNason Even if they couldn't in the past, they certainly can now with the advent of digital cameras and the overwhelming ubiquity of personal smartphones.

@EdNason Chalking is not vandalizing, check the wording in your laws!

@EdNason Yes, the technology is available. Are you ready to increase the Police Department budget, and increase your taxes??

@EdNason Touching is not searching!! Again, read the laws.

@EdNason See my reply about reading the law!!!!

@EdNason Yes, add parking meters, again a cost question! The city where i live is going with this solution. The current meters charge 25 cents an hour, all meters will start charging one dollar an hour. Chalk is cheaper!!!!

That's really interesting, I personally don't see chalking in my area but it's nice to have a clear limit set on issues no matter what they are when the government is involved.
