Liberal Education

I am intrigued by the seeming convergence of modern society with George Orwell's dystopian novel, “1984”. The term, “Newspeak” was , in Orwell's words, “designed to diminish the range of thought,” and is so close to what we now refer to as “political correctness” (as though correctness itself were dependent upon contextual parameters) that one wonders if the creators of the term took their cues from Orwell. I am sure that I am about the ten millionth person to make this observation, yet here I am, recording my thoughts, as though they might be of interest to anyone.

Video clips of a college student caught sucker punching a person for defending an alternative viewpoint have demonstrated that the mob mentality could prove to be deadly, given the right set of circumstances. Never mind the substance of the disagreement; that is just wrong.

But these student/victims have been indoctrinated by leftist neo-bolsheveik college professors, who shield them from alternative views to the point that they graduate as leftist/socialists, convinced that their freedom since birth as American Citizens can never be taken away; and that greater freedom yet will consist in getting all the free stuff they can from the “selfish” working class. They haven't been exposed to World History and so they do not see what national socialism can do to a free society.

I used the term “victims” along with “student” because they have been led down the primrose path. Just as an innocent rube in the big city might, if he is not careful, be sold a car with sawdust in the transmission, they have been sold a bill of goods called “higher education”; and now they can't get a job (...assuming they intend to work for a livelihood, a concept which may also be in question).

As far as higher education is concerned, it appears that the inmates are indeed in charge of the asylum. If a student hopes to teach at the university level, she must demonstrate her love of Marxist ideology and believe that meaningful change will only be brought about by class struggle, retribution and income redistribution. And that must of course be followed by ridding the world of toxic masculinity and all other forms of dominance, excepting socialist government, where the existing education- and performance-based hierarchy is replaced by a single-party led ruling class of bureaucrats. Oh, but wait... That has already been tried and the resultant brutal, murderous regimes that imposed it failed miserably as the people under that yoke suffered yet more miserably. Oh, but wait... Our stoonts haven't wasted their time on World History; they were too busy learning about the future from their Marxist Machiavellian mentors...

Excuse the sarcasm; I couldn't restrain myself.

And so, if higher education is to be saved from the leftists, perhaps it must be brought down in the same fashion as they recommend the current free-market economy (that has served the world's freedom-seekers so marvelously well) be brought down. But that would be rash. Conservatives are not the ones who perpetrate rashness upon existing institutions. Instead, people should just stop paying the bloated tuition for such an inferior education. Government should stay away from seeking to become the primary payer, since that intrusion consistently inflates the tuition as the Marxists betray their own principles by adjusting tuition to the limits the market can bear. In very fact, it has gone beyond what the market can bear; and students are seduced into a level of debt that they will never be able to pay off. And their university professors have suggested to them that they are in that fix because of the free-market system they despise. And the mess gets more convoluted and the students will never reach the dreams that some self-enamored graduation speaker told them to reach for.

I just re-read this and now realize that it is time for me to get some sleep.
