Even an asshole can have some value to society
Years ago I had worked in a little neighborhood store then took off for a couple of years. When I came back to it there was a customer that used to come in almost every Saturday morning, and Sunday afternoon. He liked to get coffee and sit talk. With us both being Christian the conversation was often about spiritual matters, especially concerning the local neighborhood. My co worker came in one day as this fellow was leaving. I learned that he started coming in a little over a year back. At the time he was a true asshole. He found our store because he liked the bar across the street from the store.
My coworker talked about how much she really hated this guy. He was rude and never had a good thing to say, very foul mouthed, and usually drunk by the end of the evening. The fellow had a heart attack. Didn't die, obviously since he was coming in after I came back, but after his heart attack, which he was extremely blessed to have survived he had a new outlook on life. What brought him to accepting Christ in his life was the fact he could not afford the therapy he need for recovery from the heart attack but the Mission medical office came to him offering him the help he needed. They met him on an out reach at the hospital. Their example of caring, in addition to the occasional witnessing to him as he asked questions saved the man's soul, and changed his life all the way around. He was one of the best men I ever met working at that store.
The moral of this story being that even some of the worst of assholes you meet can become good people in the right circumstances without having to take a dirt nap to do it.
