NO. “Becoming Drunk on Power”?
They have ALWAYS been those who Have ALWAYS Been Drunk on Power.
This Crisis ... with all the nebulous rules and decisions ... has simply given THESE People the opportunity to allow their True Colors to Show.

Unfortunately and all too often “Officials”, “Officers”, and “Bureaucrats” actively SEEK those positions BECAUSE they are Power Hungry or ... sometimes ... Morally Misguided and seek to Impose Their “Morality” on Others.

I haven’t done anything approaching exhaustive research on this, but it does seem to be a feature of Democrats far more than Republicans.

Duh.

These are people whose whole worldview is grounded in the assumption that human behavior can and should be socially engineered; that they are obligated to set standards for the rest of us; that it is right and proper to enforce their agenda on everyone, “for their own good;” and who wake up in a cold sweat at 4 am worrying that somebody, somewhere is doing whatever they want, free of monitoring, surveillance or the need to justify themselves.

Any reason to exert control is good enough; something like this, a once in a century opportunity, would necessarily be exploited to the greatest extent possible. It’s in their DNA.

I've heard of a few fines happening up here in Canada but nothing like that. This better go back to normal or there will be civil unrest
