Eschatologically, I believe Afghanistan was destined to go through this stage of Islamist mess. Ultimately, so will Lebanon and Egypt (which gets special mention), and others as well. Otherwise "the Assyrian" will have no mess to clean up for show to let the world know he is a leader worth his toxic salt. Islamism will for a time be the order of the day, then "peace and safety by this one empowered man for 3 and a half years, or 42 months, or 1,260 days. Before all hell breaks loose.
