Too many midwits who cannot succeed in the private sector make a career out of politics for the purpose of extracting the wealth of the industrious people who do work in the private sector. I doubt very much that the founding fathers envisioned the nation being governed by a class of professional politicians. But the profession began when President Washington retired.
