I don't know what changed, but there's no doubt blacks have gravitated to other sports, while at the same time Latinos have displaced both blacks and whites on MLB rosters. Here's the thing about pro sports...people can rightfully gripe about minority representation in the front office, but on the field, skill reigns supreme. I don't hear anyone complaining about the paucity of white players in the NBA, and why should we? I don't like to watch basketball, but if I did, all I'd care about is watching the best athletes. If they happen to be black, so be it.
MLB might think they're on to something, but it smells like really expensive virtue signalling to me. We'll see.

@coalburned Sports always acts like their cannot be a White majority sport. They go Ape in NHL Hockey or PGA Tour golf with the same complaints rather than just let the best players play.
The Players Alliance will earmark the joint grants, which will be delivered annually through 2024, for programs with the following missions:
-- Offer Player-led mentorship;
-- Increase participation in baseball among Black youth and young adults through efforts that include funding individual leagues, equipment donations, special tournaments, clinics, and playground activities;
-- Support Black cultural education, camps, and other programs designed to build pipelines and eliminate barriers to the sport;
-- Increase Black business partnerships as well as employment at all levels of professional baseball by funding education, training, counseling, and internship and recruitment programs;
-- Support baseball programs in public schools and community centers; and
-- Provide grants, scholarships and community services to various segments of the Black community.
