We live in a world with walls and those walls have to be protected by men with guns! Who's gonna do it?

I would say that the pictures are good examples but both statements are overstated. Above can be a reality. Below may not be the complete norm. Given that critique, the main point is still valid. Without the bill of rights in totality, the top can happen and it could become a reality. The bottom is possible because of the values of Western Civilization as enumerated in our founding docs, the second amendment very much included.

I think you’re wrong.
The top picture is not “overstated”. In fact, if anything, it’s understated. If you could put a collage of the “Real Picture” together by percentage of what reality is in this world, including East Europe, the Middle East, Sub Saharan Africa, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, the Former Soviet Block, Northern Africa, a few of the Urban Areas In USA ...
The World, aside from a relatively small bubble of BOTH Time AND Location, is a Complete Shithole awash in Violence and Opression.
WE are fortunate as Hell to live in that Bubble ...

I agree with you (channeling my inner Rubin.) Survival, even short term requires some level of cooperation. Two people can band together to grow enough for three but not if the overload comes by to feed his two men, game ends. I would posit we have always cooperated and we've just gotten to a high level now. We could not get to this position if we were always at each others throats.

I will be determined to keep and bear arms because we have a government that has a military that is meant to be for the common defense, however, as long as we are armed, our government stays on a leash. We are armed against the top photo, to protect what we are in the bottom photo.
We are losing the right of self defense one small step at a time through liberal actions to strengthen government control.

I’ve tried repeatedly to get this message across to people.
I’ve been through some serious shitholes and not as a tourist.
Parts of the Bronx, Harlem, Washington Heights In NY come to mind ... sorry got side tracked ... the Caribbean and Central America figure in pretty prominently.
I figure it takes the police some 20+ minutes to arrive ... it takes me about 1 minute to dig up a firearm and empty the clip into the Center Mass ... I might even have a chance to eliminate the evidence by the time the LEOs arrive.
I hate to waste bullets but that one shot to the head is pretty much “Hollywood” ... I mean, maybe they were on PCP or something ...

Disagree. In spite of the electronic hysteria whipped by the mercinary press there are too many folks in this country that just want to live and let live. The means of protection have taught me to find common ground.

You know, as a former Marine deployed to Somalia, I have noticed that the people most vocal about gun control, are the same people who have always lived in their safe, cozy, western world bubble. Any person that has visited the "real world", usually supports the 2nd Amendment, or at least understands why it's so important. At worse, they might not own a gun for personal reasons, but are not so naive to claim people don't need them.

Agreed

The reality of life on earth can get a lot worse than that top picture. Let’s not forget though, it’s not just the second amendment that gives us the bottom picture, that is also a gift from all of the good people in the services.

For protection and my fun hobby of shooting guns at the range

We can only achieve the bottom picture by being ready and equipped to overcome the top picture.
