I wonder, what can be done to fix society?

Then I zoom out.

Dozens of potential answers present themselves.

Then I watch them. Played out over and over in various fashions based on what I know, and allowing what I don't know to have it's way with the outcomes. Once things are in motion, I further remove myself by figuring I won't be able to make a single step in any direction that will stop any of it. A drop of reality in to the chaos that becomes my imaginarium.

There are no solutions. The only thing that will satisfy an end is to hope that the ever-changing parameters of the anomaly continue to change and allow for more pathways to be developed.

Despite the undeniable destruction faced by all things that are: Every day, people choose to do what's right. Not selfish. Not thoughtless. Not impulsive. Not malevolent. But kind and thoughtful.

Granted, a surprisingly common outcome of the interpretation of that kindness in to action winds up being off the mark to one degree or another. But the heart is there. We can change our own actions over the course of our lives. Much harder to change what lies in our hearts.

That became my shining star. My higher goal. What I've come to find out about humanity through my journeys through Christian Cathedrals to filthy crack dens is that humanity has value. A worth that can't be weighed or measured by any means in use today. We Are Powerful. As people, we have stood up against powers so stacked against us that death seemed a kind reward compared to suffering at the hands of the evil. We have fought for just causes. United when our communities need us most and those who suffer at the hands of unjust natural and man-made catastrophes required assistance.

I don't know if there is an "argument" to be made for religion. I don't know that science hasn't managed to prove all it ever will. I'm not sure how Timberland Pro boots are made. I'd like to know more about how my truck works. The details of my particular path through this madhouse of chaos and emotion aren't clear to me.

But I know for a fact that if I can convince someone to aim a little higher than they are currently, that I'm not adding to the badness that we've all got to figure out how to overcome. Before it drowns us all and everything we have winds up lost to oblivion.

The Beatles said it well, "Love is all you need". Looking out and away from ourselves to see and realize the betterment and well being of another.

I like that viewpoint, even though I don't quite see it as an applicable method of solving social rifts at the moment. The idea, in itself, is absolutely true. If we could just forget the bad, and embrace the good, in ourselves and in everyone around us, and strive to make all of our lives better neighborhood by neighborhood I believe we could accomplish anything. Not only as a nation but as a people.

[online.hillsdale.edu]

Hillsdale College has a bunch of free online classes on the framing of the United States government from the ground up, and they actually give amazing historical insight in to the way things are, they way they were made, the way they were and how they've changed in various ways. It's presented in an unbiased fashion and just meant to give solid facts and inform folks.

I only bring that up because, as it was framed, it was literally the single best way to ensure liberty and the opportunity to not only hold but acquire property free of tyranny. Untested. -MUCH- debated. For 200+ years it's been debated. Fought over. Blood has been shed to both change and defend this nation's founding principles to the tune of 620,000 during the Civil War and 4,435 (reported at least though far too low [en.wikipedia.org] ) during the Revolutionary War. These ideals the United States of America became founded on were things that were the single best way anyone had figured out how to live by.

If we could just get back to people working together to make something of ourselves greater than we are now, with love, and compassion, and understanding, we can get to where we need to be. But we still need to be free enough to do so without someone else telling us we can't.

@SpaceWillie2000 Well, first you say you don't see how it is applicable, but then you detail how this quote can be a blueprint for changing society! I don't know if we should forget the bad; certainly I do not think Jordan Peterson would say that. Remembering the bad informs our decision making, and hopefully, helps lead us to the good.
