There is nothing that the Government can do to stop modern mass shootings.

Literally nothing. Lets talk America. Or New Zealand. Doesn't matter, the gun laws already set in place are sufficient. Further laws won't stop it. The laws are fine. The regulations are fine. Further intervention will not do anything.

Sometimes it is the culture that is to blame. That can't be stopped by tbe government. A lot of the times, that person was just going to commit mass murder sooner or later no matter what. Thinga happen. Sometimes we can't stop it.

In America, shootings are relatively rare ckmpared to the rest of the world. They are rising because of the attentiin they get. The more we over blow mass shootings, the more the msm butchers each case and spreads misinformation, the further from a solution we get.

In New Zealand, there are essentially no mass shootings. They are not as much of a prevalent, existential problem as they are made out do be. And a lot of the time, they can't be stopped.

The Parkland monster should have been stopped. The FBI has apologized for their failure. The Texas church monster was not legally allowed to own guns. Government failed to properly document him.

Las Vegas could not have been stopped.

If we arm teachers (or at least pretend too) I am confident that many school shootings will be avoided or reduced.

To those who want a disarmed society anything short of an outright ban will never be enough. This is not about law, it is about policy and power.

I think honestly if we paid more attention to the mental health of men, we'd make a step in the right direction. So many isolated, alienated, depressed or abused men out there, just stewing away in a world dominated by dual narratives of feminism (toxic masculinity! Patriarchy! Male privilege! Entitlement! blah blah blah) and traditional gender roles telling men to suck up their feelings and "don't be a faggot". Men get caught in between. We expect so much of them and treat them so abominably when they don't deliver. Like Warren Farrell points out, most of these shooters had no father, or an absent father. This is, just one of a few factors that might increase the likelihood of mass shooters. I agree though about gun laws. If we enforce the ones we already have, that should be enough to do whatever its going to do. Our country is chock full of guns and yet, shootings are relatively rare.

@MADcHATTER Yes, fair point. I still think the understanding of men and violence or men and emotional isolation or men and fatherlessness, or men and mental health is vastly lacking. Women are encouraged from an early age to reach out to anyone and everyone about their emotional problems. Not only that, but to ask for help in all sorts of other ways. They are socialized very differently, and testosterone does play a role in aggression. When women kill, it feels less like they were driven to it by sex specific reasons. But that would be a curious thing to look at.

I think mental health and our attitude towards it is key. I agree with you that the way we approach it is important. Instead of focusing on shooters as having mental health issues (they are a tiny percentage of all people with severe mental health issues) we should focus on mental health issues as a whole. Reduced stigma. Increase treatment options. I think smart and enforced gun laws, rather than piles of new laws that make owning guns into a legal minefield are important. What if we looked reasonably and rationally at all sides of the equation and worked to fix things? Not likely, but possible.

I hate it when the medias give excess attention to mass shootings.
