And I suppose Elon Musk is into electric cars purely out of altruistic motives and has absolutely no concern for money whatsoever?

No technology is viable if it does not create profit. That being said, the one real problem with hydrogen is its volatility, which far surpasses that of gasoline. If Lithium batteries are dangerous, so is hydrogen as fuel. I prefer gasoline engined cars.
