What Saint James wrote about faith is also applicable to virtue. All these people who signal their virtue with silly memes and wearing masks are not practicing virtue by their actions. "Virtue signaling" is proof that the one doing the signal is has no intrinsic virtue. A virtuous person has no need to signal, their virtue is evident by their actions.
It is the same with altruism. Someone, I can't recall who, did a "study" that claimed socialists and communists are driven by altruism. But my counter is that there is no altruism in socialism or communism. Stealing the fruits of one person's labor to give to another who will not labor to produce that fruit is not altruistic, it's theft. Altruism is giving of your own labor and time to aid someone in need. None of the socialists or communists would lift a finger to help another human being. They want the government to do it so they can practice selfishness.
