Would you say the core of capitalism is competition? And of socialism, by definition, co-operative?

Living in B.C., Canada, shared amenities here are as white to black in USA. If you've seen our main library in Vancouver, there's not only no comparison in USA but the free or cheap and good programs there can be part of many Vancouverite's lifestyle, open to all, not just wealthy.
This holds true for pools, gyms, Community Centers also.
I always hated competition, refused it, although 'good at' things.
I far prefer a maybe 'soft socialism' that allows some capitalism but also lets noncompetitive types manage fairly well also.
All I hear are the horrors of socialism. Well, I find capitalism far worse.

With America's greater diversity comes a lot less solidarity. It's a pain in the ass.

Some pointed out how socialism just went to Communism and with
COVID-19, that's what happened.
So, are people saying no socialism can ever work?

US is so big, criminals, top flight, easily win, eg. Gates.
Nobody's watching.
In Canada, nobody worth watching.
