It’s seeming more apparent that criticism of Islam is becoming more taboo.

In my view we must call all extremists attacks for what they are. Deplorable acts of violence that rips away an individuals human rights committed by sick ideologues. This goes for all sides. We mustn’t however let rational debate against religion, religious extremists and theocratic indoctrination be confused with being racist, anti Semitic and or, Islamophobic. I personally see all religion as a blight on the planet and humanity. I just hope my right to criticise religious dogmas, views and indoctrination of children is not confused with racism or islamaphobia. This will be a win for all extremists if this comes to pass.

There’s a fine line between criticism and victim blaming but I fear for valid rational debate since Friday’s terorist attack.

Would love to hear the IDW Community’s thought...

I don''t hate or see any religion as an issue, but I am concerned over freedom of expression being OK for one faith, and suppressed for others.

Not OK Not Cool

The right to open criticism is ok, The right to violence and oppression is never ok.

Separation of church and state also requires the state to keep its grubby mitts off religion.

Its a two way street IMHO

Oh, well good to know you view my beliefs in kindness , justice, charity, and general goodwill as a blight. I so feel on the right side with you

This was a discussion about possible reasons for the Christchurch Event. 7 day Ban. I argued with FB that they can’t differentiate between the Truth and their biased Left stance on free speech. Still they maintained the Ban. So glad I found IDW.

The word islamophobia is an interesting one. It is to often assumed to be hatred on muslims...... what is missed is i think the appropriate meaning, fear of islam. I do fear islam, i fear its growth and how society must tiptoe around it.

Islam is not a religion of peace. Ask yourself if i were to burn a quran, talk ill of muhammed or in fact even draw the prophet....... would i be safe?

Is this what muslims want? To live amongst as subservants to their sensitivities?

Unfortunately society will continue to wash away opinions as mine as xenophobic, bigoted or racist........ i don't hate the individuals. I hate the ideas

You are in the majority with regard to that opinion Sir, and don't let them make you think differently.

Why the hell are you afraid of muslims?? These so called people come to OUR countries and try to turn the into shit holes. There a 1000 years behind us and have no place in modern countries. If we don't put a stop to them now remark my words we will live under their laws. I myself will die before bowing to them and everyone should feel the same. When a country is destroyed by war it can be rebuilt, but if destroyed from within will never be a country again, and they know it!!!!!

It's a war machine simple as that, hiding under the name of religion! Better wake up people before it's to LATE!

Demonizing any religion is fine until your so successful that it starts going the other way. Better to become non dual..

Religion is a way to control people and nothing else! Jesus said nothing about starting a religion and I'm no fuckin bible thumper.................

@rogue You sound like just another bitter atheist attacking the easiest target. Fortunately it is a good target to go after

@The_Farseer Bitter, no but a lot better sense I removed religion from my life. Do I believe in God.........your darn right I do. With religion out of the way I now can see the true God and my blind faith is stronger than ever. To people who think that God is a old dude in the sky with a gray beard well what can I say, but if you look into the sky at nite at all the stars you can see God anytime you want, this is the DNA of God and what we were built from. We believe that were the only ones here but guess again, our universe is but one of countless universes beyond that interconnect like bubbles we used to make from a bubble pipe when we were kids. When God (universe) said that we were made in the image of God the universe was talking about DNA and not physical appearance. Everything we say, do, think, love or hate is all recorded in the universe for all time, like radio or TV waves that will echo throughout till time ends itself. So in ending a person would have to be a fool not to believe in God.................

Just so we are all on the same page, Islam is the only religion that I am aware of that literally requires a "good muslim" to commit violence. If you havent actually read the Quran, then you probably should, I did, because its important to understand what all the criticism is all about. I was not happy when i got through that book, it requires the slaughter of everyone who does not convert, it teaches all children are born muslim, and i do mean all, violence against women and children is part of being a good muslim, lying to infiltrate the enemy is encouraged, do as they do... The defense of Islam and the name of the profit requires murder, trying to leave it requirea murder, religion of peace my fukin ass, there is only one Quran, and all of their books say the same exact thing that mine does, and its not what most of you think it is. In my opinion after reading it i believe its a bunch of shit, written by a pedophile, rapist, and murderer. They will start by moving here, its all very peaceful at first, but they are encouraged to convert as many as possible, have as many children as possible, grow the islamic population, and when the numbers are there to then apply force with violence, its all there in the bible. Its become taboo Dewal because to criticize islam, REQUIRES a violent reaponse, meaning its not fukin optional, and to spot light the very things i just mentioned will result in being called a racist, which is apparently being used a while fukin lot here lately. So apparently the idea is to just not rock the boat, don't encourage more violence by calling these "cultural differences" but what they really are, assault, murder, rape, oppression of women, that fukin list goes on and on. I think we have gotten so far away from holding people accountable for their actions, and allow the politicaly correct to guide all that we do and think thats its prob too late to fix. Words by themselves DO NOT, AND NOR HAVE THEY EVER caused harm to anyone, and that includes inciting violence on every level. If someone hears some words they don't like, and reacts with any type of physical violence, they should experience consequenses, no two ways about it. And anyone who can't handle hearing words they don't like, don't listen, its pretty easy, but seems to be complicated for a lot, shutting down speeches, labeling it hate speech and trying to silence it, is a big part of the problem, all these people now terrified to mention even one of the things i have mentioned. That shit needs to be called out for what it is, and anyone who can't hear it, without becoming violent, in my opinion isnt mature enough for the coversation, and should keep their fukin mouth shut. And calling out a religion for its utter fukin nonsense, isnt racist, has nothing to do with race, muslims come in all different colors and creeds, and its certainly nit religious persacution, i have no issue with any religion that could help some one to be a better person, to help those who can not help themselves, to make the world a better place..l unfortunetley islam, doesnt fukin ro any of those things.

Sometime's violence is the answer! When dealing with such filth you may very well have to take to no mercy violence to cull the heard. I'm a somewhat peaceful person but when it comes to my family and friends I will turn into something you will never recognize. I was fucked around a good part of my life and my dad always said, Mike you have too big of a heart. Now that he's gone home I take his words very carefully.

Mate you nailed it. Exactly true. It’s such an Evil Book. Just goes to show how much Evil is out there and our Governments are encouraging this Evil against their own Citizens. The UN knows that the World (especially Europe) is like a ticking timebomb, which is going to Blow anytime soon.

Why do you see religion is a blight upon humanity?

It's called bitterness

1

Brenton Harrison Tarrant's attack on the worshipers at the mosque sparked appropriate outrage from the worldwide community.
Meanwhile, it's "business as usual" for the followers of "the prophet". Little or outrage. The world has become complacent.

Spot on, except the part about all religions being a blight on humanity. Nonetheless, that’s another discussion, so I’d simply add that in the spirit of preserving and protecting our right to criticize religions, we should always use a measure of tact when doing so. As in, save the scathing criticisms of Mohammed until after their holy month is over kind of thing, moderate the level of attack to the emotionality of the person you’re dealing with, and so on ..

The NZ attacks were heinous and tragic. But they were only one of many recent heinous and tragic events. We have a media selling the hell out of this one though. Why?

  1. Because NZ fits the gun control agenda

  2. Because the Leftist media is attacking the 1st Amendment via censorship of "Islomophobia"

Why is there nary a blip on the national headlines about this:

[breitbart.com]

Because it does not fit the agenda of attacking the 1st and or 2nd Amendments. Change my mind.

Correlation does not equal causation. We have the highest crime rates in our country where the gun control laws are strictist. The agenda of confiscation is not going to work here without a fight. We are not budging on any of the bill of Rights.

With regard to the mass shooting phenomenon, it would seem there are always more questions than answers. Not just once or twice. Every time. Multiple credible reports of more than one shooter that mysteriously are ignored by the media. Physical inconsistencies about the nature of the shootings... Some would say this is due to many of the incidents actually being false flag events to sway the gun control debate in favor of those with a confiscation agenda.

Looney idea you say? Well the Obama era "Fast and the Furious" scandal was proven to be just that. It ain't much of a stretch to think some of these shootings are prompted or perpetrated by more than just the lone gunman wakjobs they typically are using for a patsy. If even one of these events, say one of the ones here in FL for example, are actually just that, then we would be insane to comply with any gun confiscation attempts.

Long story short, we are not going to give up any ground on the 2nd Amendment. We are not going to give up any ground on the 1st Amendment to appease the Muslim community either.

The other point I was making was to question why the US media failed to cover this story:

"...As Breitbart News alone reported among major news outlets, Fulani jihadists racked up a death toll of over 120 Christians over the past three weeks in central Nigeria, employing machetes and gunfire to slaughter men, women, and children, burning down over 140 houses, destroying property, and spreading terror.

The New York Times did not place this story on the front page; in fact, they did not cover it at all. Apparently, when assessing “all the news that’s fit to print,” the massacre of African Christians did not measure up. The same can be said for the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Detroit Free Press, the LA Times, and every other major paper in the United States."

[breitbart.com]

I contend that this is because it was Christians who were slaughtered and it was not done with guns.

What do people expect?? They come to OUR countries and try to take over ffs! We are just human and when faced with dangerous people we will react. My Uncle Joe was in WW2 and will turn 100 in a few months, can't imagine what he must think whe he seen so many good friends DIE to save OUR freedoms. It make me sick all these bleeding hearts that think a muslim will change as soon as they come over the border. Just ask Italy, France, UK, US, and Canada how nice they really are!

1

Agreed. The important thing to always remember is that we are discussing, criticising, analysing or even condemning ideas, and not people. We must also not "tar everyone with the same brush" as that takes us down the deplorable world of identity politics which just leads to divisiveness and meaningless conflict.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who identifies themselves as an ideologue has already closed their mind!

I have already seen a post (on another site) which has suggested that one of the mosques in New Zealand had produced a couple of Jihadis that were later killed in Yemen. Whether that is true or not, it would never justify the murder of other innocent people. They don't see the double standard that is involved in claiming unfairness when linking all politically right leaning folks with the madman in New Zealand but then, at the same time, linking all muslims with some Jihadis!

Step back and think slowly and carefully.

The frustrating part is when legitimate concerns or questions are refused nuanced debate because it could be uncomfortable. Just try having a sensible discussion about immigration here in the UK. Just to raise the question causes some people to immediately label you as a xenophobe and a racist!

1

Well explained and I stand by your side regards to this matter. It's just not only a religion but most to be criticized.

2

I am one of those people who is blown away at how popular and protected Islam has become after 9/11. As someone who did a deep dive on Islam learn, I don't think it's compatible with Western values of individualism.

The Muslims always have a booth at every city event where they promote Islam. (Christian and Jews not allowed) It never ceases amaze me that their literature teaches that the "hijab is freedom". That is just ignorance on steroids. And no debate is allowed or one is ostracized and labeled. But modern day feminist are embracing Muslims as oppressed victims instead of recognizing their inherent oppression. I thought they were against the patriarchy?

1

Since the attack, there are already people calling for the silencing of particular voices. Anyone who has criticised the religion of Islam in any way is on multiple lists. Too many bad faith actors automatically place criticism of Islam as criticism of muslims. Owen jones, and mehdi Hasan have been pushing to ban people in twitter. What ticks me of though, is after the Manchester arena attack, the public where told to not be angry, and just blame the individual involved. Everyone did. Since this attack, anyone and everyone is getting the blame.

An extremist is not a true believer in whatever religion they claim to practice. They just use it as an excuse. It is unfair to those who truly practice a religion peacefully.

To be a practicing Islam the way it was written makes you an extremest. They technically are the ones who are practicing with original intent. It is the ones who are practicing the "religion of peace" who have swayed from the original teachings. This is a direct quote from one of my Muslim employees.

The only contention that I have to this argument is that Islam has not had the reformation as the Catholic church did. If Martin Luther doesn't call out the corruption in the Church our current modern society would not be recognizable. Islam needs this conversation and to condemn the extremist actions with the same convictions as their victims. The women in this society are oppressed. It is incompatible with our modern society in its current form for this singular reason alone.

I agree with you on the political correctness part, and also on the religion part.
