They could act as the periscope for how China looks from the outside world's perspective. Beijing could use that. But Beijing would require CCP ideologues behind the mic. And no live feeds from outside.

@FuzzyMarineVet they would do, so long as they are in China. Beijing is as paranoid as they come. Remember a political player they defend just angered Beijing with a visit to Taiwan.
