First, the article cannot decide if it's the CIA spying on Americans or the NSA spying on Americans. And they threw the FBI in there for good measure. Apparently they're all spying on Americans, even though the FBI isn't a spy agency, and the NSA is legally prohibited from spying on Americans except in extreme circumstance and a FISA court warrant is issued. This is the problem with FOIA requests: people get a few redacted documents that do not tell the complete story so they invent one to fill in the gaps. It's good that they mentioned Edward Snowden, because that's precisely what that asshole did: draw conclusions about something he knew nothing about that resulted in him committing treason for no good damn reason.

Second, anyone surprised at Microsoft granting law enforcement WITH A LEGAL WARRANT access to what's on MICROSOFT'S cloud servers...needs to have their head examined. You put your shit in their possession and you think they're going to take a bullet for you? Based on what? That $0 you pay them each month? And - oh, BTW - what the Hell are you doing putting incriminating material in someone else's cloud environment? If you're that stupid, you deserve to rot in prison.

Third, that they had to cite a 2013 article that mentions PRISM and act like this is the smoking gun that proves the NSA is spying on you today, merely demonstrates they expect their readers to not know any better. PRISM was a program that collected metadata(1), true, but it was retired back in 2018.

(1) Metadata, in case you're wondering, is "data that describes your content." So let's take a phone call for example: metadata might include the time the call was initiated, the number called, and the duration of the call. That's it. Not who was on the line, not a transcript of what was said, just the particulars about the call itself. That's metadata. Your phone company has been collecting this metadata for literally decades and no one ever gave a shit how it was used or misused. But the government, with a FISA court warrant, wants to see what numbers a known terrorist number called to see if there's a consistent pattern that might help lead them to a double-agent working in the U.S, and everyone loses their fucking minds, thinking that the government wants to listen on your sex calls with that dumpy woman you're cheating on your wife with because at least Ms. Dumpy swallows and lets you do her in the ass. Nobody cares, son; get over it.
