I have been progressively feeling disenfranchised from western society, media, web community etc. since 1995 onwards. In the last few years, I have given up on humanity and have developed a healthy?! level of misanthropy.
In the last few years, my sense of non-belonging has become definite and total. I don't think I have much in common with those on the right, nor those on the left because most people don't seem to be honest actors.
Instead, the tribalism, lack of critical thinking, honestly and fairness are persistent features of public and private intercourse.
Most of all, the intolerance towards different opinions is the most dangerous of the recent frequent occurrences.
And this is not new to me. I grew up in ex Yugoslavia, and this sort of public and private interchange was the staple of the events just prior to and of course, during the civil war. These are precisely the things I ran away from, to the tolerant, logical, flexible west.
Things have changed.
Perhaps I am an ever pessimistic bastard, but I think the west, in general, is in for a hurt locker and the US, in particular, is in for a civil war if people of good conscience and opposing views do not stop this, whatever this is, and tell the lunatics in charge of the asylum to go fk themselves.
