"unacceptable" - how and to whom? unless there is action (not whining - not posting about it on social media - not walking the walk) - I mean real action then in all practical terms it is acceptable. Gov't won't police itself. The people are apathetic - to put it mildly. The people are lazy, disaffected, fearful, comfortable and complacent. They are tacitly participating in their own destruction - again out of apathy...
Unless or until the people actually take action - put pressure on gov't officials gov't officials will continue to assert unlawful power, steal from the public treasury and thumb their noses while they do it. BTW, this little rant also applies to US Citizens and Australian Citizens.
No uprising is tacit acceptance. IMHO
I lived on a barrier island for several years, and I learned that corrosion gradually affects everything. Sometimes it's not even evident until things start to disintegrate or fall apart. Corruption is like that. There's no way of knowing how widespread or how deep it is until it's too late.
