Here we go again! April 24th is the date for the French national runoff election between President Emmanuel Macron and challenger Marine Le Pen.
Why is the media unable to utter Le Pen’s name — even one time — without the modifier “far-right”? Le Pen isn’t some fringe crackpot. She’s been a central political figure in France for years, and is running neck-and-next with the incumbent.
While leftists get the gentle, almost complimentary descriptor “progressive”, anyone who’s a non-Stalinist gets tarred with the toxic “far-right” label.
The media refers almost reverentially to a cheap bar room Marxist like AOC or an old Trotskyite like Bernie Sanders as “progressive”. If you’re a Donald Trump supporter? Then it’s open season on the far-right, supremacist, gun-loving deplorables.
This has to change.
