I am a woman and since marry, choosing to stay at home full time with my children and giving up a career I have learned the value of traditional family roles for raising your next generation. It has made me a better woman, mother and a person of more character to put my career goals on hold for the years my young children need me full time at home. My eldest has Autism, so I am still needed full time at home because he is only managing very little time at school each week mainly due to funding cuts for 1-2-1 support and anxiety in a large classroom setting with less freedom to explore and play by choice and more sit down and follow the teacher's set tasks time. If I was at work full time my son would be mentally ill from the anxiety of having to go to school and would have been excluded from school by now because his reaction is to hit out to push away what is making him anxious. I missed earning my own salary and have hung on to the car I bought myself through these 9 years since I earned my own salary. I have had to give up getting my hair coloured at the hairdresser and going out as much as I did when I earned my own salary. I buy my clothes in a supermarket and we go on holiday within our country. We have toys in most of the rooms and love spending most of our social time on playdates for our children or together as a family. You only get these years while your children are young once. And frankly I think women in my generation have got things too out of balance. My mum's generation stayed at home with the children until the youngest went to school then got back on with their working life however they wished to. This was standard practice then and employers were understanding of the career break and letting mums come back to part time hours. Now I have to listen to mums in my generation joking how they came back to work after 6 months on maternity leave to get a break from their 6 months old baby. I could not imagine letting anyone look after either of my children so young. I went through baking and birthing them, so have had no intention of letting anyone else share these best years. My husband was the second parent and he was happy with this because we worked as a team and complimented each other. The boys now they are no longer babies or toddlers have a great and more equal relationship with both of us because they no longer need the level of mothering they did in the first 2-3 years. The cost of living increased when families started to draw into two wages, so women have basically cut themselves out of enjoying the young families years full time. I had a good job and now am treated as less intelligent and capable because I am a stay at home mum. Try having a child with special needs and listening to most mums saying today that they return to work after only a few months at home with their amazing new child to get a break. Where have all the full time mums gone is often what I am thinking. Mums who put being a mum first until their children no longer need them to, not let finances dictate but be driving brand new lease cars, and having extravagant lifestyles that could be cut back to accommodate only living on one wage. And not returning to work because they need a break. There are plenty of ways to have a break, such as popping a movie on and watching it with your children if you are having a day that is wearing you out. Going out on playdates so the children play with their friends and you have a chat with another adult. Soft play is great for giving you a chance to read a book while socialising and wearing the children out in a safe environment. Going to the park can be just as good for parents as for children. It is about having different priorities, putting your children first and catering enough for your own around the children's needs to be put first at a young age. It took me two years roughly to get used to not earning my own money, that was the hardest aspect of stopping being a career woman. However, I am so glad that I am not missing these years with my children. Even though they are going on longer than I planned while we support our eldest to more slowly learn to adjust to the increasing demands placed on children when they go to school and not enough support available to allow the school to do this more than 3 2 hour sessions a week, instead of the 6 hours a day most children attend school. I am committed to my children and being their mum before I am anything else. A Career, my own personal goals are not as important as being the best parent I can be. When I married my husband I also had to cater for his needs in my life more as we were now sharing a life. Him being the one bringing in the money could be taken as I am repressed in the relationship dynamic. Married life has made me more of a woman because they more you care for your man's needs sexually, for companionship, wellbeing, etc in the partnership of marriage the more successful a woman you find you have become. I am a more skilled woman than I was when I lived for myself and my career before marrying and having a family. No career could have given me the depth of understanding into being a woman as much or as well. It is when you successfully maintain and commit to a partnership with a man and give more of yourself up to be a mother that you grow most as a woman. My man makes me more a woman as do my children. I am definitely not repressed, but in fact a stronger woman for giving up more of my perceived feminine rights. I love knowing that I know how to satisfy my man and take pride in being a woman who considers this important. Men have become increasingly emancipated. Men take care of woman when women also take care of men. Boys and penises on legs treat men who take care of them badly. Men also need to bring back the gentleman and men generations. Women need to bring back the feminine and lady generation instead of too much weight on the scales being put on the feminist agenda/view.
