If I made a law that said you had to stick a needle in your ass, and if you didn't, you'd be put In prison for 5 years, and this is enforced by people I pay with green paper, willing to die to make sure you comply, would you then willingly stick a needle in your ass every morning?

But I do get your point. The law is an ass.
Normally, laws are agreed upon and are the yardsticks that form a social order. Respect for the law is generally held by the populace but we need as little as possible. Traffic laws, for example, are made to minimize traffic accidents. Some people may hate automobiles and favour bicycles; I wouldn't want him making traffic laws. He would have everybody driving 30 mph and building bike lanes all over the place or making 15 minute cities where you don't need a car. Take the bus, walk, ride your bike. Can't you see they're trying to save the planet? Sheesh! These people have disdain for others. Their caring-sharing, do-gooder attitude restrains and brings tyranny to everyone else in the name of "help".
Then there's the other extreme where no one will not agree to anything and it results in anarchy and chaos.
The socialist, is trying to help, making government programs for the general populace, welfare, education, etc. The result is, we have an increasing populace that becomes indolent and weak, that prefers to live on the dole and an education system that turns into an indoctrination system.
Socialism tries to remove all challenges to life for the individual. The only challenge left is eventually trying to rid yourself of the meddling do-gooder turned tyrannical control freak - because they think you're too stupid to look after yourself. If you succumb to their will they'll be busy "helping" you to your grave. All will be well if you live in fear of being challenged, take their advice and obey.
