An excellent read. I went through a lot of what is discussed in the blog, but at various stages in my life. From an early age I was concerned with hacing purpose, and something of a legacy. At that time I looked to my creative writing as a means to fulfill those thoughts. That did not pan out as I hoped, but then God does not take one thing away without offering something better. Such plans were waylaid when I got married. Though the marriage itself was something of a disaster, becoming a father has always been something I have known my purpose and legacy was menat to be a focal point for. And not juat a matter of what I do and leave for my kids specifically, but more how I affect them in ways they are good people. I know I failed them in the matter as they grew up, but I also know they have a desire to understand this world and hope it will, in time lead them to God, and salvation. In the mean time they struggle along as I did with their quest of understanding, and wanting to leave a better world than they found. On that point I feel I had some success.

I just read your article about the train in Germany. That is a great article with wonderful insight. Thanks

Thank you for reading it

@BlackoutNJ After writing about the Complex PTSD last week, I went into full trigger mode for quite a few days. Thats why you haven’t received the rest of the article from me yet. I see how you are writing and this will help me to put a bit more of a positive spin on the part that is yet to be finished. I love your attitude. You, definitely make a difference in peoples lives.

@Aaharwood I understand your situation. Hopefully soon you will have something ready to be proud of once you are done.

And thank you.

Good article. I think most that have faced the questions and resolved them for themselves have had similar epiphany. Certainly yours resonates with mine.

I'm glad to know that it's not just myself who had clashed with figuring out purpose for my life. Thank you for reading.

@BlackoutNJ I think most people at least recognize the issue. I have flippantly, but I think not incorrectly, said that we are here because our parents wanted to have sex and having a child was a known consequence. It is up to each of us to give ourselves purpose. I've known MY purpose for all of my adult life, my impact - like yours - is on people that I come in contact with incidentally. "It's a Wonderful Life" illustrates that very well.

I don't worry about my legacy. I am nothing special, just one of 7 billion others living lives daily. However, in all the Universe, there is only ONE of me, uniqueness!

My purpose? To live my life as I choose amongst others seeking to do the same.

@tracycoyle I like your outlook Tracy. One thing I didn't really write about was how I had been following my purpose before I decided what it was. I had always been a good friend but now I had become lazer focused on being a good friend. I was already a good father but I stepped up even more so. It just put me on a direct path to personal happiness. All the other noise in my life had disappeared, including my anxiety and depression.

@BlackoutNJ Not enough to have purpose but to LIVE that purpose. Nice to meet you!

That article made me think back on my own search for meaning and purpose in life. For me it came with my conversion to Christianity at 20 years old. I have since found my purpose in seeking the glory of God in all that I do, seeking to live in a way that honors Him as my Creator and Savior. I have discovered in my study of the Bible that my purpose is to glorify God and that this is also what is ultimately the best for me. His glory and my good are not two separate ends, but, in His gracious plan, they are really one end. They are inextricably linked, so that, whatever brings Him the most glory is also the very best thing for me in the end, and whatever is the best for me in the end is also what brings Him the most glory. When I keep this in mind, I find that I lead a happy life and may find meaning and joy even in life's trials and tribulations.

Note: I should add the important caveat that what is good or best for me is defined by Him and not be me.
