If that were true, the idyllic 50s would never have happened - before the Left and Democrats had the foothold they do today.
I admire the kind of people who choose to wade into the cesspool of drunks and wife beaters to protect all of us. I don't blame them for quitting instead of putting up with garbage instead of the honor they deserve.
Siding with those who want to defund the police is simply handing the Left the keys to the country. The greatest civilization on Earth would then give way to countries the likes of the Soviet Union, Mao's China, Castro's Cuba.... Endless examples. A tragic waste.

At some point people become incompetent enough that civilization is no longer possible. Since people are animals it's not surprising they act like animals when civilization is not enforced.
That said I do not think a society can function without the majority of citizens voluntarily complying with civilized order. That includes voluntary compliance with such things as monogamy and two parent families. The level of cooperation in a modern society requires the suppression of "natural" instincts. As far as I can tell the current unrest is a revolt against civilization itself. It's no coincidence it started with the partially civilized youth culture of the 60s.

Good people do not need laws. Bad people will not obey them. It's why there are over one hundred million guns in the US without 100 million crimes. Most people are good and don't kill the shit out of other people. Bad people are going to get guns, they're going to rape, they're going to steal regardless of laws.
The police don't prevent crimes. They arrest people who committed crimes. The same people who defended you before they quit are still there: you, your gun, and your super large dog.
