Apologies if this is a dumb/obvious question, but here goes. How specifically can votes by mail be manipulated?
Why is voting by mail dangerous? How specifically can votes by mail be manipulated? Or if you believe voting by mail is a good thing, why is that? Thanks for your time.

in a mail in voting situation, there is no chain. there are no responsible parties, and therefore no accountability. anyone can make any claim at any time with mail in voting. these votes were lost, these votes were found, these votes are void, everything can be disputed while nothing can be supported. these vast gaps can be easily exploited by fraudulent activities.

I'm going to assume you are talking about the current shit show between Trump and the Democrats.
Trump supports absentee ballots which require the voter to actively request a ballot by mail and they have to prove who they are and their right to vote. In most jurisdictions, you can't just put the ballot in your mailbox but you need to go to a specific location.
The Democrats are supporting sending ballots to everyone. Ostensibly only to registered voters, but they are suspiciously silent on that. They also want to remove restrictions on proving you are who you say you are and allowing ballots to be placed in home mailboxes or collected by an un-vetted stranger. They want to remove the time limit on voting (in re a postmark is not required on the ballot).
The first method is has some issues, but they are limited.
The second method has already had a number of issues.
Reports of ballots being sent to homes where the recipient either had never lived there, or hadn't lived there in years.
Reports of dead people and pets receiving ballots.
Several instances of groups sending out pre-filled registration forms with incorrect return addresses so that the group now have the necessary information to vote--illegally--in the name of other people.
Reports of masses of ballots that were not delivered.
Already, in New Jersey (I think) a judge has ruled that somebody cheated with the mail-in ballots and the election needs to be redone.
