First, what year would you consider was the peak of the religious authoritarianism in America? In Mexico, I hear it was the 70s...any guesses from the people who were actually alive would help.
Second, what was the year range where the whole four horsemen (Hitchens, Dawkins, Dennet, and Harris happened?) I wasn't in the know when the whole skeptics movement happened. Anyone?
Third, this is what I'm seeing: if you were born in the fifties, let's say, you would be a teen in the 70s, when religion was going strong. So a teen feminist today, if she were the one born in the 50s, she would be a religious authoritarian. My point being, it doesn't seem to matter which excuse the authoritarians use, they seem the same no matter the flag they claim to defend. So perhaps it's not the ideology, but the authoritarianism, and how prone society is to its lure. It's not that both the religious right and the communist left are are the problem, but the problem may arrive when a society has a problem which makes the majority of their members to feel the need to rebel. Communism was always there, how come it didn't gain popularity until now? Also, notice how the bees follow te power? It seems to never be dual sources of power when it comes to social power (government doesn't count, it always ave power, but it wasn't available to everyone. It became available to everyone when they realized they could influence the companies and big entities like that by protesting.) Perhaps if we followed an authoritarian who were forever young through the 50s until today, we would see that person going from devoted Christian to academic to commie extremist following the power in society. It's not their mind or personality that changes, but where the new institution that will be holding the power is Church-->Academia-->Feminism-->Tech-->Politics. Of course things happen in between to change who has the power, and not all people are like this. Some would be there either way. But let's say that we suddenly took the power away from the government right now, the ones who are power grifters would immediately flee. If so, it would be a different approach that would be needed. So, whu do you think?
