Question: I hear Americans don't need a special ID to vote...? How the hell do they prevent double voting then? How do you know who's voted and who haven't?

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.A citizen must be registered in the local district in order to cast a vote. That local jurisdiction is responsible for keeping the registration current (adding resident 18 year olds and removing people who have passed away or have left). The identification of a voter is then verified at the polls by a matching signature in the local registration book.
This process is broken at several layers:
- Local districts do not do a good job purging the people who are no longer local residents or dead
- Some voters have voted in multiple elections by flying to a different district. Ex. New York residents voted in NY and then flew to FL that day and voted there. They were caught.
- Poll watchers aren't signature experts. An ID would address this problem.

Thanks, good to know. Hey, another question if you don't mind. Beyond Kennedy and stuff, do politicians ever get murdered there? we get about 175/year of those over here.
@A1fredo we've had shootings. A Bernie supporter shot up some congressmen (Steve Scalise wounded), another crazy shot up a congresswoman (Gabby Giffords wounded). Reagan was shot. We have a lot of guns so there will be a few shootings. More often, bad people wind up dead and smart people choose not to play roulette with a life of thieving. Recently had some knuckleheads arrested for trying to kidnap a governor. There is so much opportunity here that mostly only dumb people choose to be criminals. And they wind up incompetent and caught. I'd be furious if our politicians played nice with drug/criminal gangs like Mexico does.
