@KanjaG Actually, I've sided, pro-choice, yet I can understand the other side (which is not really the other side per se since it's not the left! ) and understand their reasons, those protesting abortion clinics and contraception and want to ban them... not so much! But sure, this topic, as most things in life, are not as simple as many simple-minded people would think!

@KanjaG I hope you are right about Barrett actually being impartial and following the Constitution rather than injecting her religious dogma into decisions. It can be a concern, especially after Alito and Thomas recently commented that marriage equality should be overturned because some religious people disagree with it. I am 100% against ramming Barrett's nomination through right now because of hypocrisy surrounding the Republican's blocking of Garland in 2016, but I can accept her credentials. If Trump wins the election, I will be fine with considering Barrett, but I will not change my stance that there should be no hearings in the middle of an election.

As for a woman's right to choose, I have no problem with a woman choosing to stand with pro-life organizations. But I do have a problem with using religion to try and justify legislation to take away the choice of others. That is a big problem I have with the pro-life movement. I used to actually be pro-life myself, and I tried to join in rallies / protests, but I was never a Christian. I asked groups if they could tone down the overt Christian religiosity in their message and to try and appeal to science, especially because it would be more inviting to non-Christians. I was basically told to go F myself, and they didn't want anything to do with me because I was not Christian. It definitely soured my opinion of the movement.

There is a big hypocrisy problem with evangelicals, especially in pro-life movements.

You have people protesting Cuties and making up conspiracies about child trafficking and pizza restaurants, and talking about Democrats and Satanic rituals and adrenochrome. They think Trump is their savior to combat child abuse. Yet Trump himself bragged about intentionally walking in on naked minors at a pageant. Evangelicals don't seem to have a problem with child beauty pageants. There is a big problem in the USA with child-brides, and 13 states in the USA have no age limit for marriage, meaning a family can marry off their 8 year old daughter to a 40 year old man. And typically, especially in religious scenarios, sexual contact with a man and his child bride is ignored since it is between married couples. Before Tennessee set an age limit of 17 in 2018, girls as young as 10 were married in 2001. Just last year there was a bill in Idaho to end child marriage and make the minimum age 16, but the bill died, with a Republican lawmaker saying it "went too far" and another saying they were concerned about "sanctity of family".

You have evangelicals claiming to be pro-life and wanting to end abortion and protect children, but they just want to ban abortion without doing anything that has been statistically proven to actually reduce abortion rates. There are several US states that do not require certain standards when it comes to sexual education. Some are not required to talk about contraceptives. Some don't even need to teach things that are medically accurate. Around a 3rd of federal sex education funding goes towards "Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage" programs, which teach factually inaccurate claims like "condoms cause cancer" and stress that abstinence is the only topic on the curriculum, and this is for public schools. Just last year, the conservative religious Family Council helped defeat a bill in Arkansas which would have mandated for proper STI and pregnancy prevention requirements in sex-ed. It has been proven that these Abstinence Only programs lead to higher rates of teen pregnancy (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3194801/). These are the same groups which fight against allowing unwed or same-sex couples the right to adopt, preferring to let children sit in a broken foster system rife with abuse rather than go to loving homes.
