Citing blasphemy is just another false reason to shut down debate and classify speech as "hate speech". I note the demonstrations in France lacked an Islamic presence to show solidarity and yet a cartoon of their prophet brings them out in their thousands. All the questions that fact raises go unanswered when Islamophobia and hate speech are cited. Because a subject makes some parts of society uncomfortable is no reason to avoid discussing that subject.
The main reason discussing Islam is avoided is because of intimidation using violent acts sanctioned by their holy book. Some governments and parts of the media will not admit surrendering to the threat of retaliation.

I would like to know as well.
I'm not knowledgable in all religions, but I do respect an individual's right to their beliefs. Yet, there are laws that should be obeyed first.
In my religion, if I commit a sin, I confess, receive council, and my judgment is between myself and God. I am not above the law of man, however. If my sin is against the law, I will still receive justice in the court of man.
I also do not commit acts that are deemed unlawful in the name of my religion. So, I don't understand the mindset of someone who would.
I look at all crime, as a crime. It doesn't get special rules applied to it because of religion. If a religion is shown to place faith above the laws of man, it should not be practiced in a western civilization. I'm unsure why that's controversial.
There have been cults, satanic worships, and other fringe religions that have placed their faith above the law of man through history. They were condemned. Why does it make someone islamophobic, or bigoted, to say their beliefs are not a good fit for the society they are in? Why would they want to live in a society that places the law of man over their faith to begin with? Why are these questions scrutinized more heavily than the crime?

Agreed. Religious practice should not be exempt from the laws of the land, and all should be scrutinized for their incompatibility with western civilization. That includes Islam, Christianity, Judaism... all of it.
