I think apologizing has lost it's meaning over the years. Micro aggressions, tone, pronouns, and other otherwise unknown grievances (unless you're updated every 5 min on the latest "faux pax" ), have been extremely overused.
Personally, I have said many spectacularly wrong things in my life. Some, have been factually wrong, in which case I've corrected myself. Some, have been perceived wrong, in which I have apologized for and then moved on. (Additionally, the offended party said "no big deal" and moved on as well)
The biggest change has been the one strike offense mentality. I see celebrities get called out for "offensive" comedy sketches they did decades ago, random people online get censored for political beliefs, and this lingering stigma over their character remains, no matter how much time passes.
There's the "I'll meet you half way" kind of thinking, which can't be applied to this specific mentality. There's also the "let me try to explain", which can't be done if the conversation lacks good faith. It is pretty frustrating.
I don't bend a knee, raise a fist, display a sign, or chant for this false sense of protection. If I truly believed in the cause, that would be different. It makes me wonder how many who do these things actually are true believers. Because, like what was said in the video, if I would just end up hating myself and the group if I did.
