more and more i keep seeing my friends who have been treating Covid like the plague saying they have tested positive. i really hope that just maybe this helps most of them realize just how minimally life threatening this is, especially when people they have been around test negative or wind up asymptomatic.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I had to get the test back in early November 2020 (the Q-Tip to the brain one) and I asked the nurse if the test would tell if I ever had it, of course it does not. Late January of 2020 I was sick for a few days, not long after my flu shot and before CoronaChan became a TV celeb, so I was curious, yeah, guess we'll never know

It's all in the framing. The framing is determined by who is in power.
If the country was run by 50 year olds the framing would be different. Even the medical establishment is mostly ran by people over 60. Even if the medical establishment was younger they have a vested interest in minimizing the impact of Covid 19. That is the psychological aspect at the individual level.
At the political level deaths are less abstract than unintended consequences. Politicians have little motivation to take comprehensive positions the public would not understand. It doesn't matter if the U.N. is right and millions could die from the economic fall out of lock downs. Those deaths are far away in third world countries that people in the West are barely conscious of. Not to mention the even more abstract consequences such as suicides, murders, missed cancer screenings, alcoholism, etc. that may be indirectly linked and may not show up in the statistics for years.
One example of how unintended consequences fly under the radar of the general public is the disaster caused by Clinton and Obama in Libya. Open slave markets are just one illustration of how Libya has returned to the dark ages. Does any significant portion of the Western population care? Did Trump's foreign policy achievements play a significant role in the election?
What we are seeing is very much like the chant "no blood for oil". Now the narrative is don't sacrifice grandmother for money. If only the world was so simple.
