In the years prior to 2010ish these types of experiments on viruses had been subject to stringent regulations because of the concerns of bio-war and also, as we’ve seen, the possibility of a leak of hazardous pathogens onto an unsuspecting world.
The researchers were also limited by patent laws that say you can’t patent something that occurs in nature. So if they were dicking around with a virus - oh, say from bats, they couldn’t patent the results and make $$$...
So off to China where both were covered. Not to worry about international watchdogs or leaks. And as I had written if there was an issue, there was plausible deniability. It wasn’t us, the story would go, it was the Chinese.
The Wuhan class 4 bio lab was the place and the Obama administration funded the research to the tune of $3.4 million courtesy of the American taxpayer.
Another wrinkle? In November 2019 a patent was granted by the European patent office for a coronavirus vaccine to a group called Pirbright. (I have a screengrab of the doc). Pirbright can be googled... principle owners? The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
