Actually, responding to the shark according to its behavior pattern would be wise. Fear will prevent you from doing that.

More people killed by kangaroos and emus than sharks. It is really a small risk and beaches are packed. But south Australia has 9/10 white pointer breeding ground.
I say feeding sharks and staying in cages is causing more attacks. They associate people with food. In America they stopped people feeding wild animals and attacks dropped dramatically. In western Australia they started tourist shark watching in cages and now have had more attacks in 5-6 years as previous 100+

BTW, you're way more likely to get bitten by a Bull/Zambezi shark, than a White.
