People go to jail for a minor issue or unpaid fines. Then come out hardened criminals. 44% return within 2 years.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Hardly surprising. Jail is like a training ground or school for criminals. They learn from each other and network, and their environment warps them further into that mindset.
But I really don't know what the solution is either.
If the crimes are actually petty or minor, these people should be seperated from the more serious ones and run through education and rehabilitation programs (that don't have to cost much).
Serious crimes - fuck'em, you get isolation and hard labour. You get a gulag.

Well jail cost tax payers over $100000 per person. You would think they would try and keep them out. But it is not there money. Not there lives being ruined
@Poncho69 of course, but if you look at how little nursing homes spend on their prisoners... I meant 'residents', you could use the same model to cut costs in jails, thus making them cheaper. There are plenty of regimes...I mean countries, that seem to run their prisons in a cost effective manner.
