@Terence57 The idea of "better him than me" is if something bad happens, I would rather it happened to someone else other than me(or mine). This only goes so far. Some things require our response whether or not it concerns us personally today. It might soon. And I think "soon" is almost upon us.
it's human nature to try to destroy or at least to stave off that which we personally find offensive.
The very basic concept of free speech and freedom of expression - liberty for ALL for example is equally misinterpreted and misunderstood (as a Right) by leftists, rightists...well, almost everyone.

To cope with today's world, it is important to remember the adage, “it depends on whose ox is being gored.” The meaning of said phrase is that offense or injury to one's person is more real when it concerns that person personally. I agree that it is easy to minimize things when you are not the recipient of said injury.
