In the run-up to the French Revolution, Marie Antoinette was reported to have been told that the peasants were starving and had no bread to eat, whereupon she said "Let them eat cake". As Jean-Jacques Rousseau pointed out, this anecdote is apocryphal and was in fact attributed to a duchess a hundred years earlier. But this narrative is nevertheless effective because it's illustrative of a ruling class indifferent to the suffering of the people. Do we have a ruling class now who exemplifies this apathy and hostility?

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I always try to see everything from both perspectives. I tend to agree wholeheartedly with the conclusions of the author. However, I have had my vehicle broken into repeatedly. There was no damage other than a slight odor and a door left ajar.
Although my wife and I have both lived in poverty and in excess at different times in our lives, we saw the incident differently. Her first reaction was one of being violated and fear for our family’s safety. I thought about it logically and thought, “nothing was taken nor destroyed; it was really cold for Florida last night, so it was probably a desperate homeless person needing to get out of the cold”. We talked and decided to leave an army wool blanket in the car the next night. We never saw who was sleeping in our car and it didn’t continue once they knew we knew (or maybe it just wasn’t that cold anymore). This may not have been a wise choice on our part, but it’s the way God led me to react at the time. (It could have turned out differently; some have been killed while trying to help others).
I’m not saying Seth Rohan had a clue nor compassion. I’m just saying it sometimes helps to put yourself into the other person’s shoes.
