Question: Is the idea of "human dignity" or human rights supernatural? After all, they cannot be found in nature...

In response to your question I would say yes, in that if we deny the existence of some kind of divinity—howsoever you choose to define that—then the difference between human beings and animals is reduced to a matter of chemistry. Materialism becomes the prevailing analytical approach, and human life analyzed from this materialistic perspective becomes really cheap. It is only when we posit the existence of the divine and a relationship between humanity and that divinity that we can give value to human life to a greater degree than mere materialism and insist on the existence of truly “inalienable” human rights. The only materialistic alternative source for “rights” is either convention or government. And in both of those contexts the rights themselves become provisional. Given by a government or some societal convention, they can likewise be taken or denied.
