I totally agree. After 25 plus years enforcing the law, in the USA, I found that the higher the education the lower the common sense. It takes common sense to do good police work.
i can see a need for more training/experience to handle computer crime, but most people I have encounter that know how to develope new programs and methods are self taught. Check Bill Gates' history.

Many officers in the USA have degrees. It isn't necessary in most cases, but it does give those officers a chance to get promoted faster. Street officers need common sense, a controlled temperament and an ability to deal with public and physical fitness. Can college help? Yes, but it isn't necessary as long as the police forces hire the right people and give proper training. To require a college degree is saying, hey if you can't discuss Kant or Freud you won't understand how to investigate crimes and deal with prostitutes or drug dealers. Stupid.

Part of the problem is that to get promoted you need a degree. I could only go so far because I didn't have a degree, but my commander told me that he would not have survived his probation with out my advise.
When he was gone, guess who he left in charge. I just didn't get the pay!
Some of the worst commanders I worked for were the most educated, they had NO common sense!!!
