@CarrenTracey yes this is obviously a parody of Adolf Hitler and so I was wondering if the speech was actually written for and spoken by Hitler himself and then used in the movie

@CarrenTracey The speech is beautifully written and full of wonderful devices. He begins by endearing himself to his audience. "I don't want to be an emperor...." Here he is saying I am just like all of you I want want you want. This device serves to instantly get the listening public on his side. He established a symbiosis. He and the crowd feed off each other.
He continues along this idea by making an appeal to each according to ethnic identity.

Then he jumps to this:
"Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost…."

He is conflating modern production technologies with "greed". This is a subtle reference to "greedy capitalists" and juxtaposing it with the high minded idea that capitalism is unfeeling and indifferent to humanity itself. This drives to the heart of Socialist and Communist thinking - "from each according to he ability to each according to his need"

Then he addresses the Military:

"Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you - enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines!"

Here Hitler knows that to have any hope of becoming Chancellor he must have the Wehrmacht on his side. He tells them that they have been unfairly used and abused by the greedy capitalist regime of the Weimar Republic who is indifferent to the sacrifices made by the soldiers themselves.

Germany prior to WWII was a devoutly and decidedly Catholic/Lutheran country. Here Hitler uses a biblical passage diving ever deeper his dagger of deceit into the minds and hearts of the German People - thusly

"In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man” - not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure"

This is a very clever device in that it invokes Godliness and goodness into his words and in doing so it again juxtaposes Hitlers high minded sounding ideas with the "greedy indifference of the capitalists of the Weimar Republic itself.
Hitler is telling the crowd you and I are good and godly people who have suffered the cold indifference and the greed of evil Capitalists.

And finally Hitler gets to that word "Democracy". In other words "you the long suffering people and I are in this thing together! Together WE can bring change for the betterment of all! This is again very very clever. He has taken the crowd from the beginning where he denies every wanting to be an "emperor" to this moment where the crowd feels like they NEED him - they MUST believe in him and follow him in order to bring Democracy to the whole world! We are the good, the just and God is on our side!

"Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite!"

Here his speech is fete compli. He unites the civilian public and the Army behind him and his high minded ideals - one united world! is another way of saying "a new world order"
No more will mankind be boxed in by international borders where each country is its own fifedom greedily capitalizing on the labor of the people and the blood of its soldiers but united under God.

This speech is a wonderfully written piece of manipulation and persuasion. This is exactly the kind of things Hitler said in his speeches. But I don't know if the text of this speech is actually taken from one of Hitlers addresses to the throngs of adoring Germans who were all too hungry and vulnerable and want for a Savior to come along.

@CarrenTracey yes I knew about Chaplins utter dislike for Hitler and I also knew that the movie as a proverbial walking stick in the eye of Hitler himself.
I just wanted to know if Chaplin took that speech from the context of one of Hitlers speeches in real life. I just imagine the components of the speech Chaplin used were taken from news paper articles that reported verbatim some of Hitlers speeches.
To me it sounds exactly like Hitler. That is why I wanted to know
