Christ, what a loss!
2 wars, and 5 decades of multiculturalism later, and it's a shit hole!

Fact is that drug apologizers like the tobacco industry do no care how many they maim and kill as long as they can make a profit and pull down society to their pathetic low level. Tobacco users are the first sick with virus and the last well, along with pot heads. But we never hear about it because of the drug apologizers. They make us all sick toooooooooooooo

People can just stop using their products.
I'm a 'pothead' BTW.
So was Carl Sagan.

I gave up tobacco about 13 years ago.

Many people cannot stop using the product becasue they are "dope" addicts and the whole of popular culture is structured that way to make you a dope. Doctors, lawyers and Indian Chiefgs can be dopes too.

No drug apologizers please......Few illegal drugs in America for example in the 20th century when we we an example to and for the world...not now.....

The first 3/4 of the 20th century at least....

Statement of fact does not amount to an apologia.
If you have a separate agenda, why not start your own thread.

5 decades of illegal drugs and we are more stupid than ever..... and dirty, and homeless, and........

But which is more salient, the fact that society is drug dependant, or that the drugs are illegal.
Societies have always been drug dependant.
The history of drug abuse, and it's resultant debauchery, in Paris, is a tad older than 5 decades.

Use of psychoactive drugs are recorded in man's earliest history.

I agree, of course, that illegal drug trafficking is also elemental.
It is hard to discern which comes first though, the poverty and deprivation, or the 'cure'.

I'm not arguing against your point, brutalized architecture and modern art in general are degenerate and soul crushing.

There is however something we have to deal with and that is that despite the grotesqueness of the French Revolution and and all the collectivism that has followed it what is hidden in Victorian pictures is the brutal and short life of the poor. If we cannot offer the poor something better than being dependent on the government not in the future but in the present our claim to moral superiority is suspect.

Great link, and it applies to most cities, even into the early 20th century - just think of thousands of horses in the streets!

Regarding poverty, the UN estimates it’s been reduced more in the last 50 years than in the previous five centuries. Here are some easily verified facts:
—Between 1990 and 2010 one billion people were lifted out of poverty. In developing countries the poverty rate fell from 43 to 21%.
—By 2015 — for the first time in human history — less than 10% of the planet’s population was considered extremely poor.

The media has an obsessive focus on the growing wealth gap — fair enough — but they ignore the massive progress being made in the fight against poverty.

@GeeMac

Your spot on but I'm questioning how we reverse decades of created dependence both domestically and abroad. I will take that discussion to another thread because it's a stretch to fit in here. Thanks for the reply.

@wolfhnd Yep, I completely agree. There’s been a legacy of unintended consequences ranging from Lyndon Johnson’s disastrous re-engineering of America in his“Great Society” package, to well intentioned, but misguided programs like food banks.

I'm perfectly aware that the 'suburbs' of Paris at this time, were just as foul and filthy, as the shanty towns, and flavelas, of Karachi, or Brazilia, are today.
I was lamenting the loss of the beauty of the pinnacle of civilisations efforts.
How so much architectural ingenuity, and invention, has been lost to the by product of international conflict.

The decline of Paris and the west is brilliantly factionalized in the aptly titled “Submission”, a 2015 bestseller set in near-future France, after a fringe Islamic Party wins the balance of power in national elections.

Woke-progressives hate this book, because it cuts so close to the bone of truth. Although it was a mainstream bestseller by celebrated French author Michel Houellebecq (well-beck), even Google tries to bury it in search results.

Highly recommended.
