This was not the tangent of civilization and tribalism for God knows how long. It is the left that implanted this in youths heads, especially thru pop culture and music. This generation x, y z and the rest is all a leftist scam to divide the generations. Total non-sense. IF you go to other cultures in the 3rd world for example, youth are not rebels but state things about their elders with much reverence (imagine that) with common phrases to explain what the youth think by describing the elders instruction as "That's what they said". This is totally incomprehensible to youth and adults in the West.

Some of the WORST music is that played while on telephone hold. It sure does not improve a person's humour as they fume away the minutes.

This person accuses Thoughty2 of "conflating the music of the sixties with modern music".
In fact he does not "conflate" them. He contrasts them. A rather large difference. Certainly, there were some mindless and loud genres such as punk in the sixties; however, the overall quality of the most listened to music has been steadily declining.
Although, he does make some vague, weak, and illogical accusations of faulty research sources, the majority of this "nice solid rebuttal" appears to be a series of ad hominem attacks mocking Thoughty’s word choices. This fellow seems to be a member of the thriving tribe of youtubers that harvest views by tearing down actual content creators.
In any event, it really doesn’t matter. If you enjoy the caliber of music being churned out today, good for you. Fortunately, we live in an age when virtually any type of music is at our fingertips. Personally, I’m going to scroll past Miley’s Wrecking Ball, and soak up some of The Band’s Last Waltz...

I honestly don't care if modern music is rubbish or not. I listen to it, sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't like it. Same back when I was a teenager in the early 80s, all the grumpy old people were constantly telling me how bad modern music was..... I made up my mind to never become one of those people.

@WorldSigh I have seen scientific proof like this before. I don't imagine this one is any different.
Let me put it this way: if modern music had turned out to be awesome, people my age would say that it sucks. The contempt for modern music by people my age was always inevitable regardless of the quality of that music, or lack thereof.
@Crikey it’s the "scientific proof" part that factors for age and cultural bias. Also, if you had watched the video, you would have seen that the author is a man in his 30s, hardly part of the "older generation". Incidentally, my stepson is in his 20s and thinks most modern music is boring crap.

Also regardless of whether modern music is rubbish or not, it was already inevitable that my generation would say it had declined in quality at every level. That is my point.
Everything has become homogenized especially sheepeople. There are no characters in music and hollywood now, only so called artist and actors, mostly actors and try hard wanna-be's.

Not only is (and I use this term lightly) music becoming homogenized, it is also dumbing down. Fewer words are repeated over and over.
Interesting that this subject came up. I was listening to Paul McCartney’s ‘Live and Let Die’ and thinking “you don’t hear music like this anymore.”
