Watched two Star Trek movies in a row just last night. i found Generations a little confusing. But that could be because I was chatting to a few on Messenger at the same time.

Don't feel bad; Generations is pretty confusing to even hardcore Trek fans because it completely ignores certain things that were established during the TV series.
For example, we're supposed feel Picard's regret in Generations for never having had a family. Except that he DID have one, as experienced virtually in the 5th season episode "Inner Light." (1)
Or the fact that - once again - a ship called the Enterprise has to hurry to go deal with a problem before its ready to leave spacedock, because "it's the only ship in the area."(2)
But really, Generations might just be the least accessible Trek to people who aren't fans of the series, because you have to know certain things about the characters and backstories to understand a good chunk of it.
(1) Essentially, Picard lived an entire lifetime and even became a grandfather in a virtual simulation from a dead civilization that wanted to communicate to other species what happened to them. Even though it was a simulation beamed straight into his noggin, the experience was real to him, as were the memories. So for him to have regrets about never having had family and children seems a bit...weird.
(2) See Star Trek 1, Star Trek 2, and Star Trek: Generations. What is it with Starfleet having literally no perimeter defense to deal with EXACTLY this kind of situation?
