So, I was in high school in the 80s. The one I attended was right at half black, with 1 or 2 people from south of the border and maybe a half dozen Asians. It was in the deep south, within the "black belt" you see on those demographic maps. Somehow I was reminded of a conversation that went down in the lunch line one day. I only remember a couple of lines but it happened that the black guy quipped about how he only dates white women. A white guy chuckled a little bit and said "I don't blame you; I wouldn't F a N either." Everyone within earshot EXPLODED....in laughter.
I don't think the explosion today would have involved laughter.

The expression of such a dynamic back then was funny and still is today... I'd laugh my ass off. There are places that kind of humor can today still be expressed in mixed race settings and nobody take offense...namely blue collar work sites where jobs themselves are dangerous. I witness it often and it goes both ways. And all involved feel a sense of solidarity in that the freedom to speak humorously and truthfully is a privilege within the work site.

Ya know, that's part of what's being tamped out today. The environment of human interaction is sometimes horrifying in the whole of its reality,and the crazy thought police on the left have all but obliterated our previous ability to look into the face of it through vulgar humor.
That's like way at the outside of outrageous humor. I'm pretty outrageous, but there are lines I don't cross--even with good friends where we joke around about race or religion or whatever other ism makes everyone uncomfortable. I wouldn't even make that joke in front of my immediate family. Think that guy would have been killed today unless he was at the very top of the hierarchy.

Like I said above, I don't remember the whole of the context, but it was a multi-player conversation that was getting tense and escalating. The comment actually blew off the tension and broke the spell of hostility that was brewing.
It was a different world.
