California had the ability to vote that no new gas taxes could be levied without ballot approval--we could have voted for any proposed new gas tax. But in their infinite "wisdom," what I thought would be a shoe in was voted down. Now this...
Keep in mind that there was a gas tax approved that was to go to road repairs, period. NOT!! As well, we supposedly had a surplus left over from Brown.
I'm not sure how to get fellow Californians to realize how duped they've been. It's pretty outrageous.

Every last voter could vote for/against a measure on a ballot, those in "Power" would then tell the public that the measure passed/failed according to they're desires, then the public/voters under the divide and conquer strategy, spend months/years pointing fingers at each other blaming each other for the "Stupidity". I've played in the California politics arena and watched this happen time and time again, you might want to look into how much it costs (up front) to challenge a vote or get a re-count, well beyond the means of the average voter.

People do not hand it to them, they change the rules when they want and lie about it, the government is too big so it is hard to stop them. It takes a lot but can be done.
I agree to some extent, but this is a case where the people literally refused to take power away. And now it bites them in the ass. This is not isolated, I've seen these types of votes before. The politicians love to pit people against eachother, it keeps them from coming together and holding them accountable. Nothing will change until enough people wake up and take the country back from the government. It's the citizens that have allowed it to get this bad and the citizens are the only ones who can fix it. Still a 50/50 proposition in my mind, as people/society continually proves to me how stupid they can be.
@Judah80 if you live in Colorado you will learn soon. As Mr GEO315 says about Prop 13, that past over 80 percent of votes said yes in 1978, after many court trials, it became law in 1992. You don't vote for the things you should, the Representatives, that is state congress and state senate, do the vote, it becomes law and then after six months the public is told, too late, it's already law. Trying to get the government to do what it is supposed to do is difficult because of Conspiracy laws, they change the rules when they want. Been there, done that, was told don't do that anymore.
How else are they going to pay for their new voter base, theyve already driven out most of the tax paying middle class. Politics as usual in northern Mehico.
