The real answer to the question is that most people who use this retort don’t actually believe or care if it is true. It is nothing more than an ad hominem attack because they don’t have the desire (or intelligence) to argue their perspective on the merits of the facts.

The caption, “IS THERE ANYTHING THAT ISNT RACIST”, was answered in my freshman year in college and again a decade later when I worked for IBM. The answer (at least to liberals) is obvious. First let me briefly explain how those two experiences clarified it to me.

My freshman year at college found me in a required course where we discussed racism. It started with the question, who thinks they are racist? The few of us white people that didn’t raise our hands became the targets of the class. When asked to “prove” we weren’t racist, every word from our mouths was used to “prove” we were racist. When I asked, what makes anybody think I am racist, I was quickly told it was obvious, “You’re white”. When I asked if that weren’t an obvious racist and prejudiced statement, I was quickly corrected and chastised, “because a black person can’t be racist.” Hmmm. More racism?

A decade later when I was running a shift at IBM on their Helpdesk, the hiring freeze had just finished and we hired 35 untrained people to log calls so we could catch up on all the issues with a new software roll-out to 1,500 Denny’s restaurants as well as the calls from hundreds of restaurant managers from the six other restaurant concepts .

We had open cubicles and I was jumping between 5 calls at a time of my own while helping a couple other analysts with their tougher calls and at the same time listening in on the calls of those entering new problems into the database (in case I could just tell them what to tell the person on the other side of the call and close out a call, before it had to be added to the backlog). I heard the frustration of the black young lady in the cubical next to mine as she was trying to log a call from El Pollo Loco. At first I felt for her trying to handle this challenging new job, but then she started letting the manager of El Pollo Loco have it because she couldn’t understand him and “if he can’t talk good English he should go back to Mexico”. When she said this so loudly that my telephonic customers (and those of others around her) could hear her, I told her that her racist statements were unacceptable and she needed to keep them to herself. Her immediate response was shock and dismay as she said, “I can’t be racist, I’m black”.

That’s the log way around to answering the question in the caption to which I referred in the first sentence. Apparently “a black person can't be racist”.

Its not enough to not be racist, be anti-racist, everything else is an apology for racism,
