I was suggesting maybe it isn't Black people but the the general cultural malaise that we should be worried about.

Frankly Jazz and Blues fits the profile of extroverted artist high in neuroticism and low in self discipline that characterizes the current cultural dystopia. You could argue that musicians are highly disciplined but that is over such a narrow range of their lives it is irrelevant to the point.

Art is an important part of our lives just don't start thinking that the artists have any meaningful insight into how a complex society should be organized.

Don't care much for Jazz but I like Rock when I'm doing manual labor. I think of Rock as folk music for the electronic age. Jazz is to Rock as classical music is to big band. You can appreciate the contribution something makes without appreciating it at an emotional level. Jazz and country music depresses me. I want to be stimulated not drawn into a melancholy ecstasy.

Despite being seen as having origins in a counter culture there would be neither Jazz nor Rock with out Western Civilization. The technical expertise to produce the instruments used did not really exist outside the West nor in the West until relatively recently. A piano for example is more complicated to build than a Harpsichord, or a Guzheng, or a Harp, or a Balafon. Technological evolution leads to the electric guitar and wind instruments with keys and complex valves. That is why Jazz is a Western not African invention. That it emerged from people of African descent in the U.S. does speak to an African heritage but one that requires other influences. In any case Jazz remains more an influence than a predominant part of the musical heritage.

If the U.S. is remembered by archeologists in the distant future it would surely be for the semiconductor and it's mass production. Leading to consumer electronics including personal computers. Jazz and baseball will be of little relative importance.
