No, I am not the person in the middle. In 1957, 116,000 people died of the flu. Crickets. Today 92,000 probably would have died from the flu, but this year we are calling it COVID-19. How many flu deaths this year? Right. None. Am I taking COVID-19 seriously? Yeah, just like I took the flu seriously in 1957. Do I think its beyond ridiculous that we shut ourselves down over it? You bet.

I take it seriously only because I have aging parents that would be severely affected by any significant virus, otherwise it’s just the flu...
@2peros. I sympathize, as my Dad is 92, and I am staying away from him for now, but this is no different than it has been forever. Convalescent homes have far different health standards for that very reason. However reason has nothing to do with turning the whole World into a convalescent home, when the data clearly shows that 99% of those the virus kills are those with serious pre-existing conditions, and I submit that the remaining 1% are those merely with undiagnosed pre-existing conditions. There is no good reason for us to be social distancing or using masks. While it seemed like a good idea at first because we were unsure what we were dealing with, now it is clearly being continued by the Left purely as an excuse for greater government control and to discredit their opposition: the President and Republicans.
@TimTuolomne agreed. The media hysteria and overreaching government response is nothing more than a power grab on a global scale. The exact who’s, how’s and why’s remain to be seen however there are few who could pull it off. More likely that the power hungry are not letting a good crisis go to waste...

I would not be in the taking covid-19 seriously circle...no more than I take influenza and the common cold seriously.
I am VERY concerned about impending economic failure and equally concerned about expansion of gov't power.
Unlike free market capitalism Gov't is a zero sum dynamic.
More power in gov't always means less power in the people.
