Is it me, or does it appear as if every story that covers homelessness, points out the obvious: "that drugs and mental illnesses are a big problem"? Yet, instead of coming up with viable solutions, cities continue to throw Band-Aids, in the form of failing government programs.

The failure in Toronto was not throwing conflict of interest, dirty politics, unlimited immigration, corporate shill in a suit, Mayor John Tory in prison instead of electing him! He volunteered Toronto to take in countless thousands of illegal border crossing, Liberal voting block, "refugees" (refugees from the USA??). As a result, not only were hundreds of actual, born here, Canadians left on the streets last winter (and yes some died from exposure), but when all space in shelters was exhausted, taxpayers were forced to fund the take over of entire floors in luxury hotels such as the Radisson! Naturally, only "refugees" were housed there. I guess the 2 and 3 stars were all full!
There probably isn’t much left in the budget for bottom rung Canadians in need. They aren’t the sort who get out and vote anyway. I have a feeling, it’s going to be another long cold winter in Toronto.
@WorldSigh it is the same in America. You see lifetime politicians like Maxine Waters behind the walls of her estate, pandering to illegal immigrants, while legal Americans living in skid row are exposed to outbreaks of Typhus. In the 40+ years she has been in DC tent cities like skid row (in her district) have become infested with rats, people defecating on the streets and living in squalor. Drugs, like Meth, are as cheap to buy there as $2.00/hit, and everywhere you look there are scores of pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers, hustlers, and most of all, dope fiends.
