Since apparently emotions are harder than quantum mechanics, allow me to explain.

People rioting burning down their own surroundings means that they get something more important to them than their communities.

That leaves two options, but since they are shouting that it is because they hate you (the positive motivator, pleasure out of sadism,) that means it's the other option: they get to channel out their out their pain trough destruction (the negative motivator.)

Yes, it's all about emotions. If you don't realize that anybody would be eager to be a rapist murderer asshole who even cheats on his taxes if that made them happy, then you are just blocking yourself mentally in order not to feel the cognitive dissonance, because nobody is that stupid. You want money and power for the pleasure. You wouldn't want any of it if it made you miserable. Yes. Emotions is everything.

So the negative motivator. That means they have some grievance (shocking.) And I did discard their proclaimed motivator because emotion is fuel. if they were expressing their real emotion, they would have gone home a long time ago. The only way to keep a person obsessed doing something is if he is keeping the real emotion inside which won't burn out there on its own. It has to come out. That is how it works.

Now, why? How could we possibly know? Let's gather data:

It's a global phenomenon, so the source must be a global phenomenon as well.
First world countries are the most affected, so it must have something to do with wealth.
It's been growing over time, so it probably has been growing over time.

Technology.

No, of course it doesn't end there. Technology is the positive. What's the negative? It took away the humanity. Too abstract?

First, having a pain-reliever in your pocket takes away from your adversity, which means you don't develop introspection, nor get to practice being able to identify let alone control your inner impulses.
